Balmain Rock House

East Balmain

Winner at the AIA & Houses Awards

The Balmain Rock House is another example of off-form concrete done well. The house is shaped by every deliberate cut, fold, recess of the concrete, not to mention the craftsmanship of the builder in achieving the Class 1 finish.

The house received an award in the Masters Builders Excellence in Housing awards, with Newmark Constructions being awarded Young Builder of the Year.

The project involved some challenging details, such as the cast in steel balustrade, a concrete cantilever supporting masonry, and excavations immediately adjacent to neighbouring properties.
